Shoreline Social Report: December 31 – January 2


Friday, December 31st

  • Fantasy of Lights at Lighthouse Point Park in New Haven from 5-10pm. The final day to enjoy the perfect holiday activity for families and people of all ages! Admission: Car/Family Van $10 | Minibus $25 | Full-size Bus $50. Ticket proceeds benefit Goodwill of Southern New England.
  • 28th Annual Holiday Train Show at the Connecticut River Museum in Essex from 10am – 5pm. Come see what train artist Steve Cryan has created this year! A fully operational 26-foot train layout, “I SPY” scavenger hunts, and toddler sized viewing layout are all part of the fun!
  • Holiday Magic 2021 at the Florence Griswold Museum in Old Lyme from 10am-5pm. Enjoy 239 unique artist-designed palettes on Miss Florence’s Artist Trees, three Fantasy Trees in the historic boardinghouse, marvelous mantels, outdoor decorations, shopping, and even Santa’s sleigh!

Saturday, January 1st

  • First Day Hike and Costumed Dog Parade at Chatfield Hollow State Park in Killingworth. Dog parade at noon and guided hike at 1pm. Kathy Zandi will lead the New Years Day Hike. Points of interest in the park will be provided on Facebook and in print.
  • First Day Hike at Hammonassett Beach State Park in Madison beginning at 1pm. Join Bob Kuchta and Ranger Russ on the Cedar Island trail at Hammonasset Beach State Park for an easy walk to identify trees using buds and bark and searching for seals.
  • First Day Hike at Gillette Castle State Park in East Haddam. This is an all day, self-guided hiking event with a trail map describing “curious structures” and historical sites on the expansive grounds of Gillette Castle.

Sunday, January 2nd

  • Last day to enjoy the Magic of Lights display at Pratt and Whitney Stadium in East Harford. The event is open from 5-10pm and tickets can be purchased in advance here.
